FAQ - Why aren't my current systems doing this already?

This is a good question and it's asked a lot. Why do you need BFC Reporting when you have existing systems that support your business operations just fine? Why don't they already provide you with what you need? There are a few reasons. One reason is that frequently your existing systems don't have access to all of the necessary data to do what you need. In our accrual example the receipt and invoice data resided in different systems. In our budgeting example the budget and forecast data didn't reside in any systems; just on spreadsheets. Another reason is that the designers of your existing systems couldn't anticipate everything that you need. They were focused on the core capabilities required of the system and even if they had thought about your reporting needs they likely would have been hampered by the tools at their disposal. For example, integrating data into an Excel spreadsheet is a fairly sophisticated capability not available in many core systems.
